From http://downtownfarmersmarket.ca:
The Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization that connects residents of Windsor and surrounding areas to the farmers of Essex County by providing residents with local, fresh and in-season food in an accessible setting. We aim to raise the profile of local food producers and entrepreneurs by giving them a venue in which to sell their goods, while educating the public about the rich agricultural diversity that exists in Essex County. Through partnerships we work to build a stronger sense of community, restore the positive image of downtown and bring vitality back to our city.
Green Bean Café is happy to announce that we will be at the Downtown Windsor Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning in June from 8AM to 1PM. Last week was our first week and we had a great time meeting new people, chatting with other vendors and enjoying a beautiful summer morning. There were tons of vendors there this past Saturday and a constant crowd of people from 8AM on.
The market is located at the old downtown bus station at 44 University Ave. East and you can find all kinds of other information at the Downtown Windsor Farmer’s Market website. Hope to see you there!

We are so excited about the progress we made today. We removed tons of garbage, lights were hung, floors swept and we started setting up the furniture.
Huge thanks to everyone who came by and helped out today (Sorry I missed you today, Mike).

Only a few days to go and things are still all over the place. This photo was taken this morning. I have a feeling that by the time I make it back to the café this evening things will have come along quite a bit.
Our coffee maker was dropped off this morning and right as I was leaving the plumber showed up to finish off their work on the counter.
In five days we are going to be serving someone coffee.
Yikes.

After only two days of waiting, we got our new sign yesterday afternoon! We’d been working all day on the renovations so we might look a little rough, but the sign sure doesn’t. Huge thanks to Dan over at Printhouse (511 Pelissier, 519.551.3825) for doing such a great and speedy job. Dan also made us some “coming soon” signs to put up but I left them on his desk at Printhouse.
Construction on our serving counter mostly wrapped up yesterday and a lot of the tools and garbage were cleaned out. On the whole, the café is much more presentable now (but still needs lots of work).
In the meantime, the Green Bean Café is, “coming soon”. We’ll see you on August 24th! You can check out more photos from our renovations here or join our Facebook Fan Page at http://facebook.com/greenbeancoffee.

If all goes well with a little permit we need to get, we will be beginning construction on our serving counter very shortly. Using Google SketchUp, I made a 3D model of the counter to help us visualize the space we will need and to help us design a smooth and efficient workflow. The model is also necessary to give the talented people who will be building the counter something to go on.
The counter front is a combination of environmentally friendly bamboo panelling and cultured stone. If we were opening a café in the desert on a slightly hazy day, the SketchUp picture would really capture what we are trying to do. Since we’ve instead elected to build our counter inside, we’ve taped it on on the floor to help us get a handle on the size.
The next step is where the real fun begins. A plumber will come in and run the water and drainage lines, an electrician will get us the power we will need and then the real construction begins! Stay tuned for pictures of the actual construction which will hopefully be coming very soon.
